We can’t control everything in our lives, but we can control what we put into our bodies. Eating a healthy diet, along with a sustainable exercise regimen, is one of the most important things you can do to reduce your risk of developing chronic health conditions and maintaining optimum health.

Research shows that in order to maintain a healthy weight, a healthy diet is very important. The UK Government Health Guideline recommends eating a variety of fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and lean protein while limiting sodium, added sugars, and fats.

However, our busy modern lives don’t always make it easy for us to plan healthy meals and understand our health better. As a way to overcome this, I personally tend to use my audible to listen to key health audiobooks. It allows me to read on the go, as well as plan good recipes for my meal prep.  If you’re just starting your health journey, I would highly recommend these books to broaden your knowledge and keep you on track;

Tip the Scales: Introduction to Body Weight

This audiobook is a very interesting read for anyone who is interested in the science behind losing weight. Scientist Dr. Giles Yeo helps podcaster and columnist Olly Mann separate the fact from the fiction when it comes to losing weight. They look at the latest science (e.g. how genes can affect our weight, how our brains are telling our bodies to keep that fat, and why proteins make you feel fuller for longer). A really good read!

The China study book

The China Study

By T. Colin Campbell PhD and Thomas M. Campbell II MD

‘You can dramatically reduce your risk of cancer, heart disease, and diabetes just by changing your diet.’ – T.Colin Campbell

This book was pivotal in my health journey! It provides a powerful evidence-based to support the theories about the effect of a healthy diet on health. Nutrition researcher T. Colin Campbell and his team at Cornell University, in partnership with teams in China and England, embarked upon the most comprehensive study ever undertaken of the relationship between diet and the risk of developing disease. What they found opened their eyes to the powerful health benefits of a whole-food, plant-based diet. This is a fantastic read for not only people wanted to start a health journey, but also anyone who would like to transition to a plant-based diet.
